Rule 5 has appointed Miranda Wade as Account Executive.  Prior to joining the MediaCityUK agency, Wade worked at Manchester agency PR Agency One, and before that worked as part of the Cornerhouse festival marketing and communications team.  

Speaking on her appointment, Rule 5 Director, Julie Wilson, said: “We have found a great hire. Miranda’s experience in the arts, travel and leisure, and B2B sectors combined with her strong knowledge of social media and search engine optimisation, presents a perfect fit with the team and further bolsters the Rule 5 offer.  We’re delighted to have her on board.”

Wade will report into Account Director, Carolanne Bamford, and work on the agency’s Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, British Cycling and Renshaw accounts.

Waterford Wedgwood Picks Rule 5 for Social

WWRD, the Stoke-on-Trent based business that has crafted luxurious English ceramics since 1759, has appointed Rule 5 to develop the social media channels for its Wedgwood, Royal Albert, Royal Doulton and Waterford brands.

The agency is working with WWRD to develop a content and community build strategy for each of the brands. Rule 5 will also deliver a bespoke in-house training programme in Social Media for the company’s UK marketing and communications team.

As part of the work, which is already underway, the agency helped to promote Wedgwood’s bespoke invitation for the Mulberry SS14 show at London Fashion Week. The unique invitation, a miniature Mulberry tea cup, topped the online buzz charts published by Salesforce and Media Measurement, which analysed all of the social media conversations about London Fashion Week SS14.

“This is an increasingly important area for firms who realise that there is more to a web presence than just having a website” said Rule 5 Director Julie Wilson. “It’s also critical that the conversations that take place in social media reflect the personality of a business and that’s a crucial element of the work that we are doing with WWRD, defining the tone and approach for each of the brands.”

Share This Too at No 1 after London Launch

‘Share This Too’ was launched at the British Library last night and went straight to number 1 in the PR best seller chart.  

The new PR and Social Media handbook was edited by Rule 5’s Rob Brown and Ketchum’s Stephen Waddington.  It appeared at No 1 in Amazon’s Hot New Release Chart for marketing titles a week ahead of publication and made the top 10 best selling PR books on pre-orders but took the top spot after the London launch attended by media, many of the thirty chapter authors and leading lights from the PR world.  ‘Share This Too’ is the follow up to ‘Share This: The Social Media Handbook for PR Professionals,’ which topped the chart when it was published last year.

The book was conceived and written using many of the social tools and techniques that it addresses.  It’s a pragmatic guide for anyone that wants to continue working in public relations and covers new ground, complementing the first book rather than updating.  Other contributors include McCann’s Robin Wilson, ASDA’s Dom Burch and Paul Fabretti, Digital and Social Media Lead at Telefónica.  The foreword was written by acclaimed US digital analyst, Brian Solis.

Will Whitehorn, former President of Virgin Galactic and Chairman of Speed Communications, has said: “This book lays out this evolving PR world in forensic detail and is a must read for any PR practitioner.”

Another International Sports Win for Rule 5

The agency has secured a double-event brief from British Cycling.  Taking place just over a month apart, Rule 5 will handle the PR and social media the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Manchester and British Cycling National Track Championships, which will be held at Manchester’s National Cycling Centre, this September and November.

British Cycling Cycle Sport Marketing Manager, Paul Rowlands, said of the agency; “This was a competitive tender but Rule 5’s creative, hands-on approach stood out and has delivered impressive results for British Cycling in the past. We’re happy to welcome the team on-board again ahead of the autumn/winter’s action-packed track cycling calendar.”  Launched in November 2012, Rule 5 also handled the PR and social media for the recent UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, which took place in April. The new track cycling brief follows another recent successful international sporting account win for the agency; the Taekwondo Grand Prix.

Agency Wins Battle for GB Taekwondo Brief

Rule 5 has beaten off competition to land a PR and marketing brief from GB Taekwondo to promote the sport’s upcoming Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix format is a global first for the World Taekwondo Federation and will take place at Manchester Central this December (13th – 15th).  As part of the UK Sport Gold Event series, the action packed, inaugural Taekwondo GP has the backing of Manchester City Council and UK Sport.  Rule 5 will build on interest in the sport generated at the 2012 Olympics with home-grown talent, including Gold Medallist Jade Jones.  The world’s best Taekwondo athletes will also be competing at the iconic venue.

Steve Flynn, Operations Director at GB Taekwondo said of the account win; “Rule 5 presented a creative proposal that demonstrated strong knowledge and experience in sports event marketing and communications. We were impressed with the team’s enthusiasm and expertise and look forward to delivering this event with them this December.”
